The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vocational College, Universitas Gadjah Mada successfully held an International Guest Lecture entitled “CAD for Engineering Design and Additive Manufacturing Applications” on Thursday, 4 June 2026. The event was conducted online via Zoom from 07:30 to 09:15 WIB or 08:30 to 10:15 Malaysia Time.

The guest lecture featured Dr. Abdul Yasser bin Abd Fatah, Senior Lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Coordinator of the Master of Science in Engineering Design, Faculty of Artificial Intelligence, UTM. The session was attended by students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vocational College UGM, as part of learning enrichment in a course taught by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Irfan Bahiuddin, S.T., M.Phil., Ph.D., IPM, ASEAN Eng.

During the session, the speaker presented the application of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) in engineering design processes and its relation to additive manufacturing technologies. In general, the topic is relevant to various types of materials and engineering applications, including the development of 3D-printed materials, smart materials, and other manufacturing design applications.

The event was conducted successfully and ran interactively through a presentation, discussion, and question-and-answer session between the speaker and participants. Through this activity, students gained broader insights into the role of CAD in supporting design processes, product development, and the implementation of modern manufacturing technologies.

This guest lecture also served as part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering SV UGM’s efforts to broaden students’ academic perspectives and strengthen academic networks with international partner institutions, particularly Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
This activity supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education by enhancing learning quality through international academic exposure, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by introducing CAD and additive manufacturing technologies for industrial innovation, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening academic collaboration between DTM SV UGM and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
