YOGYAKARTA — The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DTM), Vocational College, Universitas Gadjah Mada (SV UGM), hosted an Industrial Guest Lecture in collaboration with PT Gaya Makmur Mobil on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Carrying the theme “Transformasi Alat Berat Menuju Era Elektrifikasi: Teknologi, Perawatan, dan Kompetensi Masa Depan” (Heavy Equipment Transformation Towards the Electrification Era: Technology, Maintenance, and Future Competencies), the event was held offline at the Ballroom of the Teaching Industry Learning Center (TILC) Building, SV UGM, Sleman, Yogyakarta.

The guest lecture was organized to address the rapid transition in the heavy equipment industry from conventional internal combustion engines toward electric and hybrid propulsion systems. This technological shift brings significant implications for energy management, control systems, and maintenance strategies. Consequently, human resource competencies in high-voltage electrical systems, battery packs, Battery Management Systems (BMS), smart monitoring, and predictive maintenance are becoming essential. The event was attended by students from the Heavy Equipment Management and Maintenance Engineering (TPPAB) study program (Classes of 2025 and 2026).

The program commenced with the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Cooperation Agreement (PKS) between the Dean of SV UGM, Dr. Wiryanta, S.T., M.T., and the President Director of PT Gaya Makmur Mobil, Ir. Frankie S Makaminang. This partnership encompasses multi-faceted collaboration in education, internship programs, applied research, technology development, industrial guest lectures, and vocational human capital enhancement tailored to industry needs.

Ir. Frankie S Makaminang served as the keynote speaker, moderated by Dr. Ir. Sugiyanto, S.T., M.Eng., IPM, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at SV UGM. During his presentation, he emphasized the critical need for future technicians and engineers to master high-voltage safety, advanced diagnostics, and data-driven equipment management. Following an interactive Q&A session, the event concluded with a site visit and tour of DTM SV UGM’s Industrial Machine Maintenance Laboratory located at the Grafika Building.
This initiative directly supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening industry-relevant vocational learning, SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by fostering sustainable heavy machinery technologies, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through meaningful industry-academia collaboration.
