YOGYAKARTA — The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vocational College, Universitas Gadjah Mada (DTM SV UGM), in joint collaboration with Jakarta State Polytechnic (PNJ), successfully convened the 16th National Conference on Mechanical Engineering (SNTM XVI) on Thursday, July 23, 2026. The national conference took place at the Teaching Industry Learning Center (TILC) Building, SV UGM, Yogyakarta.
SNTM XVI 2026 was organized as a collaborative platform to disseminate research outcomes, technological innovations, and strategic insights among academics, researchers, and industry practitioners. Centered on the theme “Smart and Sustainable Engineering in Manufacturing, Energy, and Heavy Equipment for Industrial Transformation toward Net Zero”, the joint conference emphasized driving industrial transformation toward sustainability and net-zero carbon targets.
The event featured four distinguished keynote speakers representing academia and industry: Dr. Ir. Setyawan Bekti Wibowo, S.T., M.Eng. (Director of LSP UGM), Prof. Ir. Alva Edy Tontowi, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Professor at UGM), Ir. Utama Sahala Kurniawan Sigalingging, S.T., MUM (PERTAABI), and M. Afi Prabowo, S.T., M.M. (PT Nasmoco Group), with Dr. Ir. Lilik Dwi Setyana, S.T., M.T. serving as the session moderator.
The conference program commenced with participant registration, an opening ceremony, committee reports, and plenary keynote sessions held at the TILC SV UGM Ballroom. The agenda proceeded with the presentation of Best Paper awards and commemorative plaques. In the afternoon, the conference held its parallel presentation sessions in a hybrid format—conducted on-site across classrooms and laboratories of DTM SV UGM, as well as online via Zoom—allowing authors to present their research findings to a broader audience.
The enthusiasm of academics and researchers for SNTM XVI 2026 was remarkably high, evidenced by the submission of over 500 research papers from various institutions. Among the numerous high-quality submissions, two students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering SV UGM achieved outstanding recognition by winning the Best Paper award, namely Feri Arifin and Muhammad Farchan Satria Priyadi.
The organization of SNTM XVI 2026 directly aligns with the academic commitment of both DTM SV UGM and PNJ to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and SDG 13: Climate Action. Through joint research dissemination in smart manufacturing, renewable energy, and sustainable heavy equipment management, both vocational institutions actively contribute to fostering technological innovations that accelerate national industrial transformation toward Net Zero Emissions.
