Yogyakarta, 16 September 2025 – The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vocational College of Universitas Gadjah Mada (DTM SV UGM), in collaboration with PT United Tractors, successfully conducted a Training on IoT Applications in Heavy Equipment as part of its community service initiatives. The program was held online on 15 September 2025 and continued with an in-person session on 16 September 2025 at the Sekip Campus, DTM SV UGM.

Participants from three vocational high schools—SMKN 1 Ngawen, SMK Veteran 1 Sukoharjo, and SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Playen—joined the training. The program was led by Ir. Irfan Bahiuddin, S.T., M.Phil., Ph.D., IPM, supported by academic staff such as M. Hilmi Wicaksono, S.T., alongside student and alumni assistants including Rian Miftahul Huda and Yogi Ilham Ruswara. PT United Tractors played a key role as the industrial partner in this initiative.

The training introduced participants to the basic concepts of IoT applied to heavy machinery, covering microcontroller programming and system automation. The students showed great enthusiasm, as IoT represents a cutting-edge technology not commonly explored at the vocational high school level. Each participant also received a microcontroller kit for further practical learning in their respective schools.
This activity reflects the department’s commitment to promoting technological innovation in vocational education while strengthening industry-academia collaboration, particularly through its partnership with PT United Tractors.

This initiative supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4: Quality Education, by enhancing tech-based learning; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, through IoT integration in machinery; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, via collaboration between the university, industry, and vocational institutions.
