This community engagement program aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vocational College of Universitas Gadjah Mada (DTM SV UGM), held an initial discussion and coordination meeting with the Youth Pioneer Group of Kaliagung Village, Sentolo Subdistrict, Kulon Progo Regency. This meeting represents the initial stage of collaboration for the 2025 Community Service Program, which focuses on welding training and the fabrication of portable event tents. This activity involved a team of lecturers from DTM SV UGM led by Dr. Bambang Hari Priyambodo, S.T., M.Eng., along with other faculty members and students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, as well as village authorities and youth representatives at the partner location.

irst, the welding training and skills development for local youth support SDG 4 Quality Education, by providing practical vocational education through hands-on learning that was previously inaccessible in the village.

Second, once the fabricated tent becomes a village-owned asset and is managed as a rental business, the program supports SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, by creating a new entrepreneurship opportunity and generating income for youth and the village.

Third, the application of welding technology, fabrication design, and the development of a portable tent as a technological artifact represents SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.

Fourth, the availability of a community facility that supports cultural and social activities contributes to SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, as it strengthens self-sufficiency and reduces dependency on external providers.

Finally, the collaboration between the university, local village government, and youth reflects SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals, demonstrating that strong partnerships are key to achieving sustainable outcomes.
