MATLAB Team Visits Department of Mechanical Engineering, UGM Vocational College to Explore Academic Collaboration

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DTM), Vocational College of Universitas Gadjah Mada welcomed a visit from the team of MathWorks on Friday, 30 January 2026, from 13.00 to 15.00 WIB. The visit took place at the DTM premises, Jl. Yacaranda Sekip Unit IV, Yogyakarta, and was conducted as part of a sponsorship visit and an initial discussion on potential collaboration between the two institutions.

The MathWorks delegation consisted of Bambang Nugroho (Account Manager, Indonesia), Ade Pratama (Application Engineer, Indonesia), and Yaswenee (CWL Success Story, Malaysia). The visit followed the successful sponsorship collaboration with Team Yacaranda, whose members achieved several category wins at PLN ICE 2025.

During the meeting, the MathWorks team engaged in discussions with DTM faculty members regarding potential collaboration in student activities, competency development, and joint research initiatives. The discussion also explored opportunities for research collaboration utilizing MATLAB as a computational and simulation platform in engineering applications.

In addition to the faculty meeting, the MathWorks representatives interacted directly with students from Team Yacaranda. The session provided a platform for sharing experiences on the application of MATLAB in competitions, project development, and strengthening students’ technical capabilities in engineering analysis and system design.

The visit was conducted in a constructive and forward-looking atmosphere, emphasizing the alignment between industry needs and vocational education development. This engagement marks an initial step toward sustainable collaboration to enhance applied research, learning quality, and student achievements at national and international levels.

This initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), as it promotes quality vocational education, technology-driven innovation, and strategic partnerships between higher education institutions and industry.
